Fine Gael’s energy rebate & 11pc rate will help all householders across Co. Wexford with bills – Cllr Cathal Byrne

Fine Gael’s energy VAT rebate and a permanent 11pc rate will ensure householders across Co. Wexford continue to benefit from lower electricity and gas bills, a Fine Gael Candidate, Cllr Cathal Byrne has said.

Under the policy in the Fine Gael Manifesto, households will receive a domestic energy VAT rebate of approximately €40 per annum to mitigate against any additional costs arising from VAT system changes.

Co. Wexford Fine Gael General Election Candidate, Cllr Cathal Byrne said:-

“Energy bills will fall under the new VAT rebate proposal from the Fine Gael manifesto. We will ensure householders across Co. Wexford continue to receive support with their electricity and gas bills at a time when many are struggling with high costs.

“The VAT rate for energy bills is due to go up to 13.5pc as of May 1st 2025.

“However, the good news, is any additional costs arising from this change will be offset by Fine Gael through a new permanent domestic energy VAT rebate. This will also more than make up for any changes arising from a simplification of the VAT system.

“Fine Gael wants to introduce an 11pc domestic VAT energy rate instead of going to 13.5pc next May as announced by Minister Jack Chambers last month. The domestic energy VAT rebate we propose will offset the difference between 9 and 11pc.

“I know the cost of electricity and gas is still a worry for householders.

“Fine Gael in Government will ensure that nobody faces a cliff-edge with their bills. Under this proposal, we will continue to support people across Co. Wexford with these costs.  

“Lowering the price of electricity and gas is a key priority for Fine Gael.

“If re-elected, Fine Gael will also work with energy companies to fully utilise the capabilities of smart meters and promote use of cheaper tariffs to further reduce household energy bills for consumers in Co. Wexford.”
